Beckenham has entered the Great British High Street of the Year Awards 2016

Beckenham is set to go up against the country’s best in the Great British High Street Awards after it was nominated for the national award by the Beckenham Business Association.

Beckenham Business Association has applied for the Great British High Street award, in recognition of the town team’s efforts to revitalise the area.

Jackie Groundsell, Chair of the Beckenham Business Association said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be in the running for the Great British High Street of the Year Awards.

“Our application focuses on how we’ve been collaborating with other local groups to improve life and business in Beckenham through better community cohesion.

“This is great news for our town centre and fingers crossed our entry will be successful.”

The winners of the awards will win a share of the cash prize pot, and dedicated support and mentoring from industry experts which could range from one to one coaching to advice on digital marketing.

The competition is a great way of sharing successful ideas to regenerate high streets and make them vibrant places to shop and socialise.

People can show their support for Beckenham online by sharing their photos and endorsements on social media using the hashtag #gbhighst.

Help shape the future of Beckenham Town Centre

Over 200 town centres across the UK are now using the Business Improvement District (BID) model to manage their town centres.

Locally, Orpington became a BID in 2013 and Bromley became a BID in 2015.

A BID is where an independent company is set up by the businesses in the town centre to fund and manage the projects carried out in their town.

Bromley Council have commissioned The Mosaic Partnership to ascertain whether a BID management model would be feasible for Beckenham Town Centre.

Two workshops will be held on Monday 9 May at 4.30pm and 6pm at Dizzy’s Diner 256-258 High St, Beckenham.

This is a great opportunity to share your views on the town and the potential improvements.

All Beckenham Town Centre businesses are invited to attend and complete the surveys.
